Built for South Africa's real businesses.

For the plumber with R40k outstanding, the freelancer who dreads 28 February, and the photographer still quoting on WhatsApp.

// the problem

SA small business admin is broken.

30–50%of South African SMEs fail in year one, admin overwhelm is one of the top causes.

Sage and Xero are built for accountants. Not for the tradesperson on site at 7am or the freelancer juggling 10 clients. The gap between “tool that exists” and “tool that actually helps” is huge, and it's swallowing businesses whole.

// the story

How invo started.

From a real attempt at running a small business in South Africa.

Early 2026The problem

In early 2026, I attempted to create a directory website for South Africa. I was trying my best to do it properly. Tracking expenses, staying on the right side of SARS, but I hit a wall. Every tool I found was either R600 a month for features I'd never use, or built for someone who already had an accountant on retainer.

Early 2026The pattern

I had to close the business because the admin was going to swallow me whole. The more I spoke to other SA business owners, the more I realised this wasn't unusual, it's the default experience. Plumbers, photographers, consultants. Same story, different industry.

May 2026First commit

So I started building Invo in May 2026. A tool designed around how South African businesses actually work; Rand native, SARS-aware, WhatsApp-ready. Simple enough that you don't need to fully understand tax law to use it.

// our principles

What drives every decision.

Four ideas behind every product call. Not wall art — how we actually build.

01

A business owner's Sunday night belongs to their family, not a spreadsheet.

Every hour spent formatting an invoice or chasing a payment is an hour not spent on the work that actually pays the bills.

02

Nobody should need a tax degree to stay on the right side of SARS.

Invo generates SARS-compliant tax invoices, calculates VAT at 15%, and tracks your output VAT in the background. All audit-ready without you having to learn the rules.

03

A sent invoice should chase itself.

Your client gets a WhatsApp, taps a link, and pays. No follow-up call, no awkward voice note, no invoice quietly going stale in an inbox.

04

This was built in South Africa for South Africans.

Rand native, WhatsApp as a first-class channel, VAT baked into every calculation if necessary. South Africa wasn't an afterthought bolted onto a US template.

It's just me building this. No investors or roadmap meetings. I build the web app and I read every email that comes in, so if something is broken or annoying, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

What we won't do.

Six commitments. Plain language. No fine print.

  • We won't make you ask for the price. It's on the page. No 'contact sales', no hidden fees.

  • We won't sell your data. We make money when you subscribe — that's the whole business model.

  • We won't lock invoicing, quoting, or getting paid behind expensive tiers. Advanced features like Projects and team access cost more — we're upfront about what's on which plan.

  • We won't treat South Africa as an afterthought. Rand, SARS, WhatsApp, Paystack & PayFast — built in from the start, not bolted on.

  • We won't hide behind a ticket queue. You email us, the person who built this reads it.

  • We won't ship things nobody asked for. If it's not solving a real problem, it doesn't get built.
